James Cuthbertson (Year 11), Kayla Millon (year 10), Daniel Tinsley and Alicia Reynolds (both year 9) are now through to the quarter finals of the Chemistry Olympiad. The competition is run by the Royal Society of Chemistry and is open to all school in Wales. In the first round they beat Glanafan, and St Joseph’s in the second round. Both rounds they won by nearly 20 points. They have worked extremely hard and shown some very impressive Chemistry knowledge!
Last July, Miss Jones and Mrs Carswell of the Mathematics faculty went out to visit the Year 6 pupils in our feeder primary schools. Each pupil was given the challenge of completing a Mathematics Transition booklet over the summer. The booklet included Mathematics questions and problems designed by Year 8 pupils at Dyffryn. The pupils, now in Year 7 handed their booklets in during their first week in Dyffryn School. The booklets were judged on their effort, presentation and mathematical skill. First prize went to Jodie Evans, 7R, while three runner up prizes were given to Ada Chi, 7X, Anya Rajan, 7X and Ellie Needs, 7X. Well done to everyone who entered!
This September, 21 pupils spent a wet, wild and Welsh weekend at the Urdd camp, Glan-llyn in Bala, North Wales. They completed a range of enduring activites on land, in the water and in the trees. Fun was had by all and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
A big 'Diolch yn fawr' goes to the staff at Glan-llyn for their hospitiality and to the staff at Dyffryn for giving up their weekend to take the pupils.
