Year 11 Boys Rugby Win Ospreys Regional Cup

Dyffryn’s Year 11 boys rugby term beat Bryntawe 46-21 to take the Ospreys Regions Cup. The boys played brilliantly, showing great determination and effort.

The team got to the final by beating Llangatwg in a close match at the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field.  It was a great team effort and with tries scored by Rhys Henry and Jordan Walters,  Dyffryn then proceeded to the regions final at the Gnoll.

Some of our Year 11’s came to watch the game and support the team. The game was played in front of S4C TV cameras and highlights will be shown on Rugbi Pawb.

Mr Larkman, Year 11 Rugby Coach said: “It was really pleasing seeing five years of hard work come to fruition on a big occasion” .

Penguins and Christmas Cake

During the first week of December, we welcomed Year 5 pupils from our feeder primary schools for a Design & Technology Day in the Upper School. Pupils used Serif Draw to generate images for Christmas Cards, laser cut Penguin Tree Decorations, used CAD\CAM to make wooden pencil holders and bake mini Christmas cakes with a sustainable theme.

Mrs Jefford, Headteacher of Groes Primary, said of her pupils: "Their enthusiasm was bursting! One of the children summed it up in one word "awesome"!!"

All of the pupils had a great time getting into the festive spirit as well as familiarising themselves with the school.

Primary visits by the Mathematics Faculty

Our Mathematics Department have been visiting feeder primary schools in the run up to Christmas. The primary school pupils have experienced a fun, practical lesson about 3D shapes and their nets. Pupils had to name 3D shapes, including those that they see in everyday life. There was a competition for the best group who matched up the correct net with each 3D shape. The pupils then finished the session with constructing a 3D Christmas tree based on what they had learned.
